Human rights group brings own torch to U at noon

Sporting its own version of an Olympic torch, a human rights group opposed to the government of China is passing through Minneapolis today.

The main event is at noon at the University of Minnesota’s Coffman Union. This torch relay is scheduled to pass through 37 countries, as organizers hope to draw attention to human rights concerns in Tibet, as well as the Chinese government’s persecution of the Falun Gong, Buddhists, rights advocates and others. The torch was in New York City on Sunday.
