Is he smarter than a third-grader? St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman may find out Friday when third-graders from Farnsworth Elementary School join him in Phalen Regional Park for an Arbor Day activity.

The kids are making tree drawings for the big day, and they’ll listen to some speeches and help plant a tree. Maybe they’ll ask the mayor what kind of tree they’re planting. Or see if he knows how tall the tree will be in five years if it grows 8 inches a year, except in bonding bill years, when it actually loses height.

All are invited to the free ceremony, at 2 p.m. in Phalen Park, across from 1080 E. Ivy Ave.
