Paint-recycling bill vetoed

Gov. Tim Pawlenty has vetoed the paint-recycling bill, which would have established a program for used paint to be dropped off at retailers and paid for by a 40-cent per can fee. I wrote about it here.
The state currently spends about $5 million assisting counties in paint-recycling efforts, but the governor said there were no guarantees that the taxpayers would recoup that money under the proposal. Pawlenty’s veto message said that the fee would impose “a second government-imposed payment on Minnesota consumers for this same purpose.”
