Ted Stevens indicted

Sen.

Sen. Ted Stevens of Alaska, the longest-serving Republican in the Senate was indicted today by a federal grand jury for allegedly making false statements on his Senate financial disclosure forms to conceal the fact that an energy company paid for hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of work on his home. Stevens, who has been a senator since 1968, is up for reelection this year and is in a toss-up race against Democrat Mark Begich, the mayor of Anchorage.
