New I-35W bridge could open Tuesday

The new Interstate 35W Bridge is expected to open to traffic next week, possibly Tuesday, the Minnesota Department of Transportation said today.

A news conference with Gov. Tim Pawlenty is scheduled at the bridge for 11 a.m. Monday.

Construction crews have been working around the clock on the bridge since Nov. 1.

The remaining work on the $234 million bridge includes: installing and testing anti-icing and “smart bridge” systems, finishing and striping the deck, installing signs, landscaping, installing and testing traffic signals and lights, and cleaning up the site.
