Law enforcement agencies and local governments in the southern metro area will get 36 defibrillators, courtesy of the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community. The devices deliver a shock to the heart and are considered a crucial early treatment for heart attack victims.

Twenty of the devices will go to the Scott County sheriff’s office for use in squad cars and other vehicles. The others will go to:

• The Prior Lake Fire Department: two for rescue trucks, one in a duty truck, and three in vehicles for the chief and assistants. Four of these units replace outdated models.

• The fire departments in Carver, Hamburg, Cleveland and New Market. Each department will receive two.

• The Minnesota Manatees of Chanhassen, a local diving club that helps in search-and-rescue missions.

• New Market Town Hall.

The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community, which owns and operates Mystic Lake Casino Hotel and other casinos and enterprises, reports that it has donated $31.5 million this year to charitable organizations and other Indian tribes.
