Sunday concert of political songs a good way to get ready for election night

Here’s a way to prepare for election night: a free concert of political songs at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Landmark Center in downtown St. Paul.

Put on by Skylark Opera, the program features Vicki Fingalson, Marcus McConico and Jeffrey Madison presenting songs by Jacques Offenbach, Gilbert & Sullivan, George M. Cohan, Sheldon Harnick and others. A narrator will string them together with commentary.

So we’re not talking Woody Guthrie or Bruce Springsteen, but operetta and musical theater.

The concert’s title is: “Patriots and Politicians: Reflections on Politics and Government in Song.”
