For a change, Hennepin canvass meeting may draw a crowd

Most years — heck, every election year I’ve been a reporter — the official county canvassing board sessions to verify election results have been among those meetings you’d look for excuses to skip. Like you couldn’t find a black pen, only blue ones.

But this year we’ve got a close Senate race, and today’s the final day to complete the canvass and report official results to the secretary of state.

Many counties have already finished, but Hennepin County’s will be among the last. Its session is set for 4 p.m. today in the Hennepin County Board Room on the 24th floor of the Hennepin County Government Center.

The Hennepin County Canvassing Board consists of Hennepin County Commissioners Linda Koblick and Mike Opat, Mayor R.T. Rybak, Hennepin County Auditor/Treasurer Pat O’Connor and 4th  Judicial District Court Administrator Mark Thompson.

I imagine they’ll be some Coleman and Franken folks in the audience. Where’s that black pen?
