Legislative forum to focus on issues affecting people with disabilities

Wednesday is the last day to register for a legislative forum focusing on issues affecting people with disabilities.

The Dec. 1 forum, sponsored by the Minnesota State Council on Disability, will include updates from House Speaker Margaret Anderson Kelliher and Senate Majority Leader Larry Pogemiller, along with reports on Health and Human Services prospects from Sen. Linda Berglin and Rep. Paul Thissen.

Disability organizations also will report on their legislative priorities. The forum comes three days before state officials issue a budget forecast, but there already is speculation that the deficit could be $4 billion, which could pro attempts to make cuts to many of the services used by people with disabilities.

The forum will run from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Monday.

In addition to the live session at the state Department of Human Services, 444 Lafayette Road – Room 5137, video-conferencing facilities will be set up at 12 state-wide locations. Check here for more information.

To register, call the council at 651-361-7800 V/TTY or 1-800-945-8913 V/TTY.
