Visitors to Voyageurs National Park and nearly all other national park and wildlife refuges will be able to carry loaded, concealed weapons under a new rule approved by the Bush administration late last week. The Voyageur visitor must be authorized to carry a concealed weapon under Minnesota state law. I wrote about the proposal, which generated more than 140,000 comments, in March. The National Rifle Association worked for the rule change, while the Coalition of National Park Service Retirees and all seven living former directors of the National Park Service were opposed.
