Michele Bachmann receives ‘Worker Freedom’ award from ‘open labor’ group

U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann has received a "Guardian of Worker Freedom" award from the Alliance for Worker Freedom in Washington D.C., for what the group calls "her commitment to workers’ rights, open markets and labor freedom in 2008."

The 6th District congresswoman also received the award in 2007.

The Alliance for Worker Freedom says it is "dedicated to combating anti-worker legislation and promoting free and open labor markets" and gives its awards to "Representatives who stood up for the freedoms and interests of workers and against special interests and regulatory schemes that crush employment opportunity."

The group's opponents call it an anti-union organization.

In a press release announcing the award, Bachmann said:  "I am honored to be receiving this award. The men and women who make up America’s workforce are the heart and soul of this economy.  And in the face of our serious economic challenges, it is more critical now than ever to encourage job creation and expand workers’ freedoms and opportunities."
