Chris Coleman will have challengers … for mayor’s race

Chris Coleman won’t be reelected by acclamation, after all, in his bid for a second term as St. Paul mayor. He was unanimously endorsed by the DFL city convention recently, but the Pioneer Press blog City Hall Scoop notes two challengers are lying in the weeds.

Republican John Krenik has said he’ll run, and now first-time candidate Eva Ng says she’s in and will run as a conservative independent, say the Scoopsters.

After a career as a business consultant, Ng took over as CEO of Eagan-based Blanda Inc. and married company founder Bob Blanda.

Chris Coleman needs a DFL challenger, or at least a progressive one. Coleman’s complete rollover to the Department of Homeland Security during the RNC was a betrayal of democratic values and as it turned out our bill of rights. His insistence that the convention was an economic success and somehow enhanced the image of St. Paul is a bald faced lie. Coleman stood by as jackbooted Homeland Security thugs drove around in black SUV’s with automatic weapons at the ready, saving us from anarchists. His police force was indoctrinated by the Feds and played into their fabricated scenarios. Finally his refusal to acknowledge that crimes were committed in the name of his city completes this total policy failure and alienated just about all progressive east metro citizens.

The St. Paul police were under the direct supervision of Ramsey County Sheriff Fletcher, who reported to (and was accompanied by) the FBI, DHS, et cetera, so what they did was not the Mayor’s fault.

I do agree that he and all the City Council should have stood with Dave Thune in opposition. LOUDLY and with fervor and while calling for an end to the wholesale roundups of innocents.

Chris Coleman has clearly earned the nickname “Goldilocks” for his insistence that the amount of police violence during the RNC was “just right.” Not only did he spearhead the drive to invite the Republicans to town, not only did he roll over and let Bob Fletcher bully people across multiple jurisdictions, not only has he lied about the huge financial losses to St Paul, but he still has not one word of apology for the loss of our freedoms during that time or after. He has, in fact, actively blocked any even-handed investigation that would include looking into police intimidation and violence. Chris Coleman does not deserve to be re-elected.

Chris Coleman has no idea what he’s in for. He underestimates Eva Ng at his peril. Voters love her, and she has extensive business experience, something St. Paul greatly needs. Although he has AFSCME people helping him out of California, it will be in vain. People want new blood, not Coleman, who’s proposing tax increases while property values decline! How arrogant is that?
