U of M regent selection finalized by Legislature

A joint session of the Legislature on Monday approved four members of the University of Minnesota’s Board of Regents. Three — Patricia Simmons of Rochester, John Frobineus of St. Cloud and Clyde Allen Jr. of Moorhead — were re-elected to their posts.

Richard Beeson of St. Paul fills a slot vacated by David Metzen, who didn’t seek re-election after serving two six-year terms.

The 12-member board of regents are resposible for governing the unversity system; terms are staggered, with four members elected to six-year terms every two years. One is elected by the Legislature from each congressional district and four are elected at-large. It’s a volunteer position.
