As promised, lawyers for Al Franken this morning filed a motion (PDF) seeking an expedited schedule for handling Norm Coleman’s Minnesota Supreme Court appeal of last week’s ruling from the three-judge panel in the Senate election trial.

The judges concluded that Franken had won the election by 312 votes and said he was entitled to an election certificate. Coleman filed his notice of appeal Monday.

Franken’s lawyers today sought a three-prong approach to speeding up proceedings. They asked the high court to expedite the preparation and filing of the trial record, the briefing schedule and its decision on a date for oral arguments. They want oral arguments heard as early as May 4.

We detailed Monday’s proceeding’s here.
