Lawmakers say flood victims should get tax filing break

Minnesotans in areas affected by the Red River Valley floods should get an extension on filing their federal income tax returns, say U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar and Rep.

Minnesotans in areas affected by the Red River Valley floods should get an extension on filing their federal income tax returns, say U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar and Rep. Collin Peterson.

They sent a letter to the commissioner of Internal Revenue requesting the extension for those in the flood-affected counties, saying that many people there have been working steadily on flood preparation. A tax extension would allow them to continue fighting the floods without the pressure of the April 15 deadline, Klobuchar said.
