One of the items on the Minneapolis Planning Commission agenda this afternoon is a proposal to increase the amount of garbage burned at the Resource Recovery plant, located next to Target Field, the new Twins stadium. The meeting is at 4:30 p.m. in the council chamber at City Hall.
A reason for the proposed increase — burning an additional 200 tons per day — is to provide more energy for downtown and to generate steam to heat the stadium.
Minnesota Public Radio reports: “An environmental impact study of the area concluded that odors from the plant should not have an impact on the ballpark. City officials also say they don’t expect increased use of the plant to create additional dust kicked up by trucks hauling garbage to the burner.”
So we shouldn’t have to worry that the wind blowing in or out will affect more than home run prospects.
