DFL gubernatorial candidates jump on the hay wagon

A pumpkin patch in Lansing, near Austin, Minn., was the bucolic setting Saturday for appearances by 10 DFL hopefuls in the 2010 governor’s race.

You might say it put the F in the DFL. They even used a hay wagon as a stage to address 200 people who showed up for the candidate judging.

According to the Rochester Post-Bulletin, those attending were: state Sen. Tom Bakk, St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman, former U.S. Sen. Mark Dayton, former state Rep. Matt Entenza, Ramsey County Attorney Susan Gaertner, former state Sen. Steve Kelley, state Sen. John Marty, Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak, state Rep. Tom Rukavina and state Rep. Paul Thissen.

Not present was Minnesota House Speaker Margaret Anderson Kelliher.

Besides the political entertainment, there were wagon rides and live music.

You might add that the day culminated in a straw poll in which attendees gave their reaction to the near-complete parade of formal and unannounced candidates. The winner? Senator John Marty.
