Credit Minnesota’s 6th District Rep. Michele Bachmann with this: She doesn’t exactly run from some of the more controversial things she says. Quite the opposite. When soliciting donations, the Republican congresswoman embraces many of the statements that make Democrats believe she’s beatable.
In a solicitation emailed to supporters today, she writes of how conservative media personality Sean Hannity referred to her as “the second most-hated Republian woman.” Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is No. 1, in the views of Hannity and Bachmann.
Bachmann doesn’t shy away from the comparison. “With Gov. Sarah Palin taking a well-deserved step out of the spotlight, it appears that I may be absorbing even more of the liberals’ scorn,” she writes.
“I’d really appreciate your support so that I can defend myself against their attacks. I’m out there every day speaking the truth about their attempt to guide this nation into socialism.”
Among other things, she goes after the feds “for partnering” with such organizations as ACORN “to collect your private information for the Census.”
“… The more I talk about things, the more they attack with below-the-belt personal hits. In fact, yesterday, a Minnesota paper gave a full column to a hit piece on one of my kids!”
Some might argue that Jon Tevlin’s column in the Star Tribune was, rather, a story about how one of her kids is going to work for Teach for America, despite his mother’s disdain for the federal program.
Bachmann says Democrats are raising more than $30,000 a day to defeat her.
