St. Paul budget address streaming live at noon; Minneapolis budget speech coming Thursday

If you can’t get to Cray Plaza (formerly Galtier Plaza) in downtown St. Paul at lunchtime today, you can watch St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman’s budget speech live online from the city’s website, starting at noon.

Early reports say big spending cuts are needed to fill a budget gap, and up to 45 layoffs might result. Also, the budget levy is headed north, up to 6 percent higher.

Across the river, Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak will give his budget address to the City Council at 2 p.m. Thursday. He’s been Twittering about his long budget meetings the past two weeks, and notes there will be “tough choices.”
