Attorney Erik J. Askegaard named new judge in Brainerd

Erik J. Askegaard, an attorney in Brainerd, has been named to the vacant judgeship in the Ninth Judicial District, filling the spot vacated when Judge John R. Leitner retired in May.

Askegaard, 49, has been president of the Askegaard and Robinson law firm since 1991. Before that, he was an associate at a Moorhead firm and has clerked for a North Dakota Supreme Court justice.

A Fargo native, he grew up in Detroit Lakes and now lives in Brainerd with his wife, Joan, and their three sons.

Judge Askegaard, when he was an attorney, represented us in a personal injury case. His compassion and drive to go above and beyond what was expected of him will never be forgotten. I just now saw this article about his appointment as Judge of the 9th district, and I can tell you from experience that you will never find a more fair and level person to fill that position than Erik Askegaard. Congratulations, Your Honor!
