Minnesota 6th District Rep. Michele Bachmann will burnish her conservative standing when she appears at the 1st Annual Tea Party Convention in February. The Nashville event also will feature former Alaska Gov. and vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

City Pages says Bachmann will give a breakfast speech, while Palin is the keynote speaker at the Saturday evening main event Feb. 6.

Tickets for the weekend convention are now on sale for $549 but don’t include accommodations at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel and Convention Center.

  1. the palin – bachmann team would be fantastic. both these woman are great supporters of developing our own natural resources to promote greater prosperity for our country.

  2. Tea Party convention… one’s cup runneth over:

    Bachman,

    and Palin too?

    One lump; now two

    won’t sweeten the bitter brew.

  3. The Tea Party Movement started and funded by the grassroot movement in this country is burning across this nation like ‘Wild Fire’.

Just seven months ago … President Obama … told the people of America he didn’t know the Tea Party Movement existed. This is proof, that ‘We The People’ are involved in a ‘New Revolution’ to protect our government and our constitution.

‘WE WILL BE HEARD’, and we will make change.

I’m so proud of our movement and our 1st Annual Tea Party Convention. This is proof, we are moving ahead, and will not be silenced.

Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck are the ‘NEW VOICE’ to this movement, and ‘We The People’, will follow them to ‘VICTORY’.

  4. Hmmm. And then there’s Sara Robinson’s application of William O. Paxton’s history of the development of fascism in various countries during the 20th Century. Progress through Paxton’s five stages is not deliberate — no one says, Hey, let’s become a fascist country — but rather a slide down a slope that becomes steeper and more slippery through time.

It starts with resentment, anger and sometimes violence from people like Timothy McVay and the abortion-doctor murderers. By stage 3, the provocative, hate-filled language used by those who are capable of violence is echoed and used to foment more anger and resentment among folks like the Tea Partiers by a conservative elite. Members of this elite? Conservative members of Congress and other political leaders, talk radio and other media, think tank members and educators.

    Ms. Robinson’s writings are at ourfuture.org and/or alternet.org.

  5. bernice – do you know what is the definition of facism.
facists believe capitalism should be controled and this is achieved by establishing significant government control over business and labour. facism allows private companies to exist but retain complete control over their management. have you seen any examples of this in the united states and who is doing it.

  6. David: My Webster’s defines fascism as:

–a system of government characterized by rigid one-party dictatorship, forcible suppression of opposition, private economic enterprise under centralized governmental control, belligerent nationalism, racism, and militarism, etc., first instituted in Italy in 1922

–a political movement based on such policies

So Webster’s agrees in part with your definition but does not limit the word’s meaning to that one aspect. I believe in America, the greater danger to our country is lack of governmental oversight of those members of the private economy that use every opportunity to rob us blind (such as health insurance companies and Wall Street).
