5 candidates now racing for Dick Day’s state Senate seat

There are now five GOP candidates seeking the state Senate seat in the Owatonna/Faribault area that’s open because Republican Dick Day is resigning to lobby for additional gambling at horse tracks.

The Faribault Daily News says the two latest are Faribault City Council Member Steve Underdahl and Faribault real estate agent Teri Menard.

Others in the race are Owatonna Mayor Tom Kuntz, Owatonna businessman Ted Boosalis and former Waseca City Council Member Mike Parry.

The Minnesota Independent reports that no DFL candidates have emerged.

A special election will be held Jan. 26. If necessary after endorsements, a primary will be held Jan. 12.

The news is spreading about Jason Engbrecht’s run for Dick Day’s abandoned seat. The DFL has found an excellent candidate in Mr. Engbrecht, who is a Faribault School Board Member and a St. Olaf Physics Professor.
