Special election set for Sen. Day’s seat

Voters in Senate District 26 — the Owatonna/Faribault area — will vote Jan. 26 for a new state senator to replace Dick Day, who is resigning to lobby for expanded gambling at race tracks, or “racinos.”

Gov. Tim Pawlenty set the election date and said a primary, if needed, will be Jan. 12.

To run, candidates can file affidavits and petitions of candidacy with the secretary of state or their county auditor between Dec. 23 and Dec. 29.
