“I was walking by at lunch and said, ‘Oh, no way,’ and I just snapped it,” says Bill Gray.

If you somehow missed KSTP-TV’s investigation into city of St. Paul crews’ long breaks between repairing potholes, this photo will mean very little to you.

But today’s scene was rather amusing to Portico Healthnet spokesman Bill Gray, who works across the street from KSTP’s studios on University Avenue West and keeps up with the news. He also has bounced in his car along University in recent months, trying to avoid the pothole minefield.

Gray, one of my sources, sent me the photo in an email a little while ago. Since MinnPost media critic David Brauer is on spring break, I took it upon myself to scoop Braublog.

“I was walking by at lunch and said, ‘Oh, no way,’ and I just snapped it,” Gray said. “Isn’t it hilarious?”

LOL.

  1. Were they fixing the road in response to the story KSTP did? Were they still taking long breaks at the gas station next door? If not, I don’t see how this a story. I don’t think you scooped David on this non-story..

  2. Well, I read the white letters on the blue truck as “City of Saint Paul,” so I don’t think it’s the Hubbards in the orange vests.

While the story may not be that great, the photo tells the story, and I think the photo, along with the date of 30 March, tells a great story. Since it wasn’t 1 April, we know it’s not a a joke!

I too have bounced along University Ave’s pothole minefield in recent weeks, so only wish the breaks would have been shorter, and the street could have been repaired weeks earlier.
