State Rep. Tom Rukavina picked up a valuable endorsement this week, as U.S. Rep. Jim Oberstar threw his support to a fellow Iron Ranger.
Said Oberstar, the 17-term congressman:
“I’m supporting Tom Rukavina for governor because he has unwavering commitment to our core DFL values: jobs for our people, educational opportunities for our children and economic fairness for every citizen of Minnesota. Tom Rukavina has the passion, the ethics and a good sense of humor to excite DFL and independent voters across our great state. Tom Rukavina can win this race, and I’m committed to helping make that happen.”
Rukavina, who’s been considered a dark horse in the endorsement race behind House Speaker Margaret Anderson Kelliher and Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak, seemed happy — heck, elated — with the Oberstar news:
“I am so proud to have earned the support of Jim Oberstar. When the dean of the Minnesota congressional delegation speaks, people listen. He is a DFLer that everyone honors for his commitment to public service and the highest ethical standards.”
The DFL will endorse a candidate April 23-25 in Duluth, but at least three other DFL candidates plan to run in the August primary if they don’t get the party nod.
