After a parent said he opposed having a day off school for Good Friday, the Brainerd School Board has changed the wording of two religious holidays on the school calendar: Christmas break is now called “Winter Break.” And Good Friday is listed only as “No School.”

Students still get the days off, says the story in the Brainerd Dispatch.

School board members said they’d like to hear more about the changes at a future meeting, so they’ll know what the religious community thinks about the change.

The paper said the issue first came up in February, when the parent told board members “he was opposed to the district calendar calling for a day off on Good Friday, a Christian holiday.”
