Six months ago, we thought that on April 22 St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman would be packing his bags and working on an acceptance speech before heading to Duluth for the weekend where he’d be seeking the DFL nomination for governor. But in October,he decided to drop out of the governor’s race and focus on the many challenges of being mayor.
So today instead of packing, he’s delivering the State of the City speech: 1 p.m. at the Como Park Zoo and Conservatory Visitor Center auditorium. It will be a nice setting and beautiful day for those attending. Alas, some of us have to go to Target Field at noon.
Coleman also keeps things positive, but he’ll have to address the city’s budget woes, too. And the Pioneer Press suggests that he’ll propose merging some services with the school district, as a way to avoid duplication and help both entities’ bottom lines.
