Mayor to mayor: Coleman endorses Rybak in gov’s race

St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman — who at one time this year was considered a likely candidate for governor himself — has endorsed Minneapolis Mayor R.T.

St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman — who at one time this year was considered a likely candidate for governor himself — has endorsed Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak’s bid for the DFL endorsement in the governor’s race.

As the Pioneer Press City Hall Scoop tweeted: It’s like the Twins’ handshake in the new Target Field outfield.

Coleman called Rybak a partner and friend.

Rybak and state House Speaker Margaret Kelliher are considered the favorites going into the April 23-25 state endorsing convention; Rybak claims he leads in regular delegates but Kelliher has more super-delegates.

Several other contenders are waiting in the wings in case neither gets the needed 60 percent for nomination. In addition, at least three candidates — Mark Dayton, Matt Entenza and Susan Gaertner — have already announced they’ll run in the August primary regardless of the convention results.
