MnDOT Commissioner Tom Sorel is a finalist for U of M job

With Gov. Tim Pawlenty’s final term winding down, we can expect to see his appointed commissioners and staff members start looking for new jobs that will be effective Jan. 1 or earlier. Already, Tom Sorel, the commissioner of transportation, is a finalist for the post of director of the University of Minnesota’s Center for Transportation Studies.

The Pioneer Press blog The Political Animal says the center’s acting director, Laurie McGinnis, is the other finalist.

Sorel was appointed to the state job in 2008 when the state Senate ousted Lt. Gov. Carol Molnau; she’d been doing both jobs and the legislators didn’t think that was a good idea.
