Bob Carney of Minneapolis, who is running for governor as a Republican in the Aug. 10 primary, selected Williiam “Bill” McGaughey as his running mate.

Carney describes himself as a moderate progressive Republican and calls McCaughey a “property rights advocate.” McCaughey is a frequent office seeker, including tries for U.S. Senate and Congress. He’s been associated with the Independence Party in the past.

Both Carney and McCaughey ran for Minneapolis mayor last year; McCaughey came in ninth with 230 votes; Carney was 10th with 229 votes.
