Burnsville Mayor Elizabeth Kautz leads national mayors’ group to check Gulf oil spill

Burnsville Mayor Elizabeth Kautz, who’s also the president of the U.S. Conference of Mayors, will lead a delegation of the nation’s mayors to New Orleans and the Gulf Coast on Monday.

The mayors’ group wants federal agencies working on the oil spill to keep local cities updated on the efforts to cap the spewing well and on cleanup.

Itinerary for the trip says the visiting mayors, along with New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu and other area mayors, will be briefed by Coast Guard officials, take a bus trip to Lafitte, La., and a boat tour with Louisiana fishermen, and have a late seafood lunch at Bon Ton Restaurant in New Orleans.
