The AFL-CIO didn’t endorse any DFLer in the gubernatorial primary race — which, in retrospect, could have been the final blow to the Margaret Anderson Kelliher candidacy — but the big coalition of labor unions today announced it is backing DFL nominee Mark Dayton.
Unions had been split in the primary — some backing Dayton, others backing Kelliher — but the labor groups are now quickly uniting behind Dayton. Last week, Education Minnesota, the carpenters union and MAPE all endorsed the primary winner.
In a statement, Dayton said:
“I am honored and grateful to have the support of the 300,000 hard working men and women of the Minnesota AFL-CIO. I have always stood with working women and men, and will continue to stand with them if I am elected Governor. Getting Minnesotans back to work will be a top priority of my administration.”
