Emmer campaign lashes out at new PAC ad, calls it a ‘whopper’

The Tom Emmer campaign is strongly condemning a new ad by the Alliance for a Better Minnesota that attacks the education policies of the Republican candidate for governor.

The Alliance is a progressive political action group; Emmer’s campaign calls it a “DFL and family front group for Senator Mark Dayton.”

His campaign calls the new Alliance ad a “whopper” that “lies” about Emmer’s budget and policy plans for education.

Said Emmer Campaign Manager Cullen Sheehan: “Tom Emmer is not slashing education funding. To the contrary, he is increasing state spending by $500 million in the next biennium.”

The Emmer camp also says the ad touts DFLer Dayton’s plans for better schools but never points out a funding source for those plans.

Indeed, the ad does note that Dayton has proposed all-day kindergarten, cutting class sizes and “paying teachers what they’re worth,” but so far Dayton has not explained where the money for those goals will come from, given the state’s current budget crisis.

Says the Emmer campaign: “Mark Dayton can promise the moon, but he still has no plan to pay for it.”

ABM’s ad was poorly conceived and opened the door to an effective response attack on Dayton.
