Iraqi delegation in Duluth to seek sister-city arrangement

Five visitors from Rania, Iraq, are in Duluth today to meet with the mayor and continue an effort to develop a sister-city relationship between Rania and Duluth.

The Duluth News Tribune briefly profiles the five visitors from the Kurdish city, not far from the Iranian border. They include  a youth center director;two English teachers, one high school, one college; an art teacher and a civil engineer.

Duluth already has four sister cities, but a group of Duluth residents visited Rania in 2009 to help get the ball rolling on this one.

Supporters say that cultural and educational exchanges, along with visits to each city by residents of the other, will help foster a better understanding of life in Iraq.
