Alan Bjerga, who grew up on a Minnesota farm and is now president of the National Press Club, will speak Tuesday at the University of Minnesota on “Power and the Press: Covering Washington in the Obama Era.”
Bjerga now writes for Bloomberg News and used to be in the Knight-Ridder Washington bureau.
The 4 p.m. speech is free and open to the public at the university’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication’s conference center. Bjerga has a master’s degree from the journalism school. The conference center is in Murphy Hall, 206 Church St. S.E., Minneapolis.
Organizers say he’ll “share his perspective on what has been happening in Washington, D.C., as reporters adapt to new forms of media, the new economics of news organizations and age-old questions of reporting on political power.”
