Patient and thorough volunteers in Rochester have picked up 35,000 cigarette butts from 10 sites in the city, the Rochester Post-Bulletin reports.
So the parking lots and sidewalks should be lots cleaner at:
- Kahler Grand Hotel, where they collected 6,401 butts
- Apache Mall, 5,940
- Target South, 4,422
- Crossroads Shopping Center, 4,262
- Miracle Mile, 4,021
- Rochester Family Y, 3,190
- Silver Lake, 3,099
- WalMart South, 1,444
- Mayo Clinic/Gonda, 1,241
- Shopko North, 1,000
Twenty-one volunteers in the “A Litter Butt Better” anti-litter campaign went to each location three times between May and July.
As part of the program, the paper said the city “distributed 350 free pocket ashtrays, rubber containers for smokers to use rather than tossing butts on the ground.”
The story doesn’t say who was in charge of the counting.
