Chance of rain moves Obama DFL rally indoors at U of M

A chance of rain won’t keep President Obama from attending a DFL rally Saturday at the University of Minnesota campus, but it has persuaded organizers to move it inside.

So the rally for Mark Dayton and other statewide DFL candidates will be inside the University Fieldhouse, at 1800 University Ave. SE in Minneapolis. Originally, the rally was to be held on the University’s Northrop Mall.

The gates still open at 12:30 p.m., with the original rules still in place — no posters or banners, no laptops, backpacks, folding chairs, metal or plastic drink bottles, or bags or purses “larger than a standard sheet of paper.”

And parking will still be very difficult, because the Gopher football game against Penn State at the new stadium on campus starts before the rally Saturday morning.

Can someone give me an estimate of the crowd size? They initially wanted to use the outside mall because 10’s of thousands were expected. I do believe Barry O DID NOT fill up the 7000 seat venue that they moved him too ( I saw plenty of seats in the cropped RedStar photos). Wow, such a come down from overflowing the Target Center just 2 short years ago, no? And this time he even had the advantage of having 50,000 people nearby leaving the football game before his speech started.
