Garrison Keillor again urges support for Tarryl Clark

In the last days before Tuesday’s election, radio celebrity Garrison Keillor is again urging support for DFLer Tarryl Clark in her challenge of U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann.

In September, Keillor sent an email to Clark supporters noting that the 6th District is the home of his fictional Lake Wobegon, and saying that Bachmann’s presence in Congress is “embarrassing to me and a great many Minnesotans.”

Today’s email notes that Bachmann “is not a witch” [referring to Delaware Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell] and laments that the incumbent “holds the “All False / Pants-on-Fire” record from the Pulitzer Prize-winning fact-checking organization PolitiFact.”

Keillor wonders:

“I ask you: Why does an incumbent need to spend $8.6 million for a re-election campaign in one district? In Minnesota!”

Of course, Clark has raised a ton of money, too: $4.2 million.

Besides attacking Bachmann, Keillor has some nice words about Clark:

“Tarryl Clark is a smart, well-spoken state Senator who puts the common good of Minnesotans ahead of political ideology. She has done the hard work of balancing budgets, creating jobs and investing in education. She’s held taxes down for middle class people. She is salt of the earth and speaks honestly about the challenges we face.”

I’ll ask again. Why to Twin City liberals who do not live in my congressional district feel the need to tell me who to vote for? Mr. Keillor, my family followed through on our threat and canceled our MPR membership 10 days ago. We let it lapse. Lake Wobegone does not care for your hand-handpicked candidate for Congress. Try improve your current member of congress.
