Hennepin County Board freezes salaries at $97K

Members of the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners have voted to freeze their salaries for the next two years at $8,090 a month — or $97,080 a year.

They had previously voted to forgo an automatic pay increase of 3.4 percent in 2010 (based on county employees raises in 2008) and have now agreed to keep the same pay level for 2011 and 2012.

And earlier this month, the board voted to give back about $462 each — the equivalent of 20 hours of their pay, after taxes and mandatory withholding. That’s the amount of time they’d encouraged employees to take off, without pay, to help ease the county’s budget crunch.
