Three grants totaling $1.2 million have been awarded to habitat restoration and cleanup projects in northeastern Minnesota, two along the St. Louis River.
The Environmental Protection Agency announced this week that Community Action Duluth will receive $636,365 for restoring urban riparian zones and implementing critical habitat restoration projects in the St. Louis River Area of Concern. In addition, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency will receive $411,680 for cleanup and restoration of the river.
The University of Minnesota won a $193,432 grant for restoring 200 acres of moose foraging habitat near wetlands in the Lake Superior Uplands.
The grants are part of President Obama’s Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.
