NRA sprays its Minnesota endorsements to six congressional incumbents — 3 from GOP and even 3 Democrats

Most of the NRA’s political endorsements go to Republicans, but the Second Amendment gun rights group also is supporting  a few Democrats in Congress this year, including U.S. Reps. Tim Walz, Collin Peterson and Jim Oberstar in Minnesota.

The NRA’s Political Victory Fund gave Walz and Peterson As, and Oberstar a B+, in rankings on gun issues.

Walz’s opponent, Republican Randy Demmer, also got an A, but the group gave the nod to Walz, apparently for his incumbent status.

Also getting support are: incumbents Republican incumbents John Kline, A, Erik Paulsen, A-, and Michele Bachmann, A.

It didn’t endorse in the 4th and 5th Districts, although Republican challenger Joel Demos in the 5th got an AQ rating, meaning he qualified on his written answers but doesn’t have a voting record on Second Amendment issues.

The NRA also endorsed Republican Tom Emmer with an A+ in the governor’s race, incumbent
Attorney General Lori Swanson with an A+, and challenger Dan Severson with an A in the secretary of state race.

The NRA supports the people who support it.
Unfortunately (from my point of view) Tim Walz has been an NRA member and supporter for many years, so it’s not surprising that the NRA supports him. He’ll weaken any Demo gun control legislation that comes up.
And yes, I support him anyway for the many good things that he does.
