While waiting for the recount in the governor’s race, DFLer Mark Dayton got some budget advice from experts on all three sides of the aisle this week, meeting with former state finance commissioners who’d worked for Republican, DFL and Independence Party governors.
Attending the meeting with Dayton Wednesday were:
- John Gunyou (under Republican Gov. Arne Carlson)
- Peggy Ingison (under Republican Gov. Tim Pawlenty)
- Jay Kiedrowki (under DFL Gov. Rudy Perpich)
- Pam Wheelock (under IP Gov. Jesse Ventura)
Dayton’s campaign issued this statement on the meeting:
“Governor Perpich had a quote in his office that said ‘none of us is as smart as all of us,’ and it will take all of us coming together to solve the budget deficit we’re currently facing. As we wait for the results of the election to be confirmed I will continue to prepare for the task ahead, and welcome ideas from all corners of the state. The election is now over and it is incumbent upon all of us to put politics aside and do what is in the best interest of the people of Minnesota.”
The state’s projected deficit is $5.8 billion.
Pending a recount, Dayton led in the governor’s race by 8,755 votes late this morning.
