Experts to discuss recount today at U of M

Today at the U of M’s Humphrey Institute, top election officials will hold a panel discussion on the coming recount in the governor’s race.

Ramsey County’s election director, Joe Manksy, and his counterpart in Hennepin County, Rachel Smith, will be among the experts talking about what’s next in the Dayton/Emmer race.

Smith may have to explain, yet again, about the glitch on Election Night that temporarily reported a double-counting of many votes in Hennepin County. But after that, they can get down to the nitty-gritty of canvasses, recounts and Lizard People. Political scientist Larry Jacobs will moderate.

It’s at 3:30 p.m. today in the Cowle’s Auditorium at the Humphrey Institute, 301 19th Ave. S., Minneapolis. The Center for the Study of Politics and Governance is the sponsor.

She can repeat her explanation until she is blue in the face, she will never be able to pierce the veil of radical skepticism that certain partisans have voluntarily drawn over their clouded minds. They will be left with “questions” still.

It is in the skeptics’ interest to remain ignorant, and so they will remain by sheer force of will, even though the “glitch” is a historical event and has no bearing on the number of votes counted in Hennepin County. It’s a modified limited hangout for the GOP until they can find something with some more substance to hang their obstructionist hats on.

Rather than wasting her time, and ours, maybe Ms. Smith could do something useful; like recount the ballots and match up the votes with the registers.
