U.S. Rep.-elect Chip Cravaack is getting some experienced help with his move to Washington: Former U.S. Sen. Rod Grams will head his transition team.
Grams will be interim chief of staff for Cravaack, who upset longtime U.S. Rep. Jim Oberstar in the 8th District. Cravaack hopes to hire a permanent chief of staff for his Washington office by early January.
Grams, a former television news anchor, was elected to the U.S. House in 1992 and then won the U.S. Senate seat in 1994. Six years later, he was defeated in his re-election bid by Mark Dayton. Four years ago, Grams challenged Oberstar in the 8th District but was easily defeated.
