Kelliher, at peace with her near-miss, praises Dayton

The moment was not bittersweet, “just sweet,” said Margaret Anderson Kelliher, who spoke to a cheering crowd of DFLers at about 10:30 tonight.

“When I voted today,” the House speaker told the crowd, “it reminded me of my last vote for a winning governor [Rudy Perpich, in 1986). It felt so good.”

Kelliher, of course, was the DFL’s endorsed candidate for governor and fell just a percentage point short of Mark Dayton in the August primary.

No thoughts of what might have been?

“I’m excited for Mark,” she said, after her short speech. “I’m excited for Minnesota. His heart is in the right place.”

In fact, Kelliher campaigned hard for Dayton. One of her kids, she said, was even door-knocking for Dayton today.
