Paul Williams, a veteran of the nonprofit and community development arenas, will become St. Paul’s new deputy mayor in January.

He replaces Ann Mulholland, who left the city last month to become vice president of grants and programs for the Minnesota Community Foundation and The St. Paul Foundation.

Williams is now senior vice president of field strategies and development for the Local Initiatives Support Corp., a national organization that helps revitalize neighborhoods and has a St. Paul office.

He’s also been vice president and senior manager of fund distribution for the United Way of the St. Paul Area and a program officer with the Minneapolis and St. Paul Foundations. His community board positions include the African-American Leadership Forum, Family Housing Fund, Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity, St. Paul Community Development Agenda Task Force and the Minnesota State Arts Board.
