Vallay Varro gets new job, leaves school board and city job

After a year as a member of the St. Paul School Board, Vallay Varro will resign from the board as part of a job change.

She’s leaving her job as education policy director for St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman to take a new position as executive director at the Minnesota Campaign for Achievement Now, a new nonprofit organization that will advocate for better schools. It’s one of the early state efforts in the national 50CAN movement for improved public education.

“Launching and leading this new statewide effort is going to take all of the time I can muster and it wouldn’t be fair to the people of St. Paul to have a Board member who couldn’t give that position the time it deserves,” Varro said in a statement.

The school board will announce on Dec. 14 its plans to fill Varro’s seat.
