Budget reductions looming for Southwest Minnesota State University will cut to the core, says President David Danahar, who’s retiring in the summer.
Danahar said he’s looking at cuts of nearly $2 million to possibly more than $3 million from the Marshall school’s appropriation, says the Marshall Independent.
Most other state higher education institutions face similar problems, the paper said.
“What we’ve done basically is cut to the core of what we do here,” Danahar said. “I’m very concerned that we will now begin, in the not-too-distant future, cutting into the core. That is not an ideal concept or position that I’m at all comfortable with, but I need to put it out there as a possible reality.”
His planned cuts, so far, include reductions to academic affairs of $1,165,000, while IT, athletics, finance and facilities, administration and student affairs combined for a decrease of $487,000.
