The election of Duluth City Council Member Kerry Gauthier to the state House of Representatives leaves a vacancy on the council starting in January.

So the council now will choose from among eight possible replacements, says the Duluth News Tribune: Bill Elliott, Gordon Grant, Jacqueline L. Halberg, Garry Krause, Pete MacInnes, Wade Petrich, Sarah M. Priest and Tony Salls.

Gauthier, a DFLer, has served just one year on the council.

The person chosen will fill the slot until voters get a say in the next general election.
