Minnesota Supreme Court issues opinion explaining its Emmer recount ruling

Citing “obsolete language” in the state’s elections law, the Minnesota Supreme Court this afternoon issued an 18-page opinion (PDF) explaining its earlier ruling that rejected GOP gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer’s effort to force precincts to use “reconciliation” in counting ballots.

Lawyers for Emmer had argued that election officials needed to match the number of votes in each precincet to signatures on election rolls before the statewide recount in the race should have proceeded.
